SAIoneers Afiya and Subhranshu's Research Paper Accepted at NeurIPS Workshop
05 Oct 2026
SAI International School proudly celebrates the remarkable research achievement of SAIoneers Afiya Noorain and Subhranshu Mohanty, whose research paper, "Invocation-Level Reliability of Tool-Using Agents," has been accepted at the NeurIPS workshop "Who Verifies the Agents? Toward Reliable Agent Development." The paper is also available as an arXiv preprint.
NeurIPS is a leading international conference in artificial intelligence and machine learning, bringing together researchers and practitioners working at the forefront of the field. As part of their achievement, Afiya and Subhranshu have been invited to attend the conference in Sydney, Australia, where they are scheduled to present their work on December 11 and 12, 2026.
Their research examines an important challenge in the development of AI agents. While an agent may be able to plan a task correctly, it can still fail while interacting with external tools. Such failures can occur when an agent selects an inappropriate tool or provides incorrect inputs. The students' research focuses on measuring reliability at the level of individual tool calls, helping to examine where and why these failures occur.
The paper introduces a framework for measuring correct tool invocations under different conditions and investigates how errors can affect subsequent steps in multi-step tasks. Their work also examines limitations that can arise when reliability is evaluated using exact-match scoring and discusses an alternative approach to assessing performance after a model has deviated from the expected trajectory.
Afiya and Subhranshu worked collaboratively throughout the research process, from developing the initial idea and conducting the investigation to writing and refining the final paper. Their accomplishment reflects their intellectual curiosity, dedication and willingness to engage with complex questions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and reliable agent development.
Their achievement is a proud moment for the entire SAIoneer community and an inspiring example of how young learners can contribute to contemporary research and engage with emerging areas of technology.
SAI International School extends its heartfelt congratulations to Afiya Noorain and Subhranshu Mohanty and wishes them the very best for their presentation in Sydney. Their journey is a reminder that curiosity, rigorous inquiry and perseverance can open doors to meaningful contributions on the global stage.
