Shri Patra, who was the Chief Guest added that, SAI International School has become an epitome of success in the educational field for its sincere contribution towards value based education.
The fifth edition of Eastern India’s largest Model United Nations (MUN) is held at SAI International School, Bhubaneswar from July 27 to 29, 2017. Around 500 National and 60 International delegates from 16 different countries like China, Morocco, Tunisia, Uganda, Slovenia, Sweden, Russia, Ghana, Nepal, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Algeria etc are participating in the 3-day conference, to address issues of Global concern through deliberations and consensus.
Shri Priyadarshi Mishra, Member of Legislative Assembly, Bhubaneswar North and Mr. Derk Segaar, Director, United Nations Information Centre in New Delhi, for India and Kingdom of Bhutan were the Guests of Honour on the occasion. Shri Mishra in his address said that Bhubaneswar is not only a smart city but also a heritage city, an educational hub and a destination for sporting events. He added that SAIMUN is a proper platform for the future world leaders and gives an excellent opportunity to get a deeper understanding of global challenges. He advised the younger generation to take the mantle of leadership forward and bring about positive changes in the society.
Mr. Derk Segaar, Director, United Nations Information Centre in New Delhi, for India and Kingdom of Bhutan appreciated India’s huge role in a bid to reach the 2030 sustainable development goals and said that in the coming years, India will be exporting solutions to the rest of the world. Addressing the young students, he said that today’s youth are the most connected and open minded which is very crucial to find apt solutions to the challenging problems. He stressed on the need to address ‘Gender Inequality’ and said that it is the major key to success. He advised the students to understand the importance of UN while debating in the various sessions and take decisions based on practicality so as to make direct positive impact on people. Mr. Segaar highly appreciated the theme of SAIMUN ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and said that “One World – One Family, what a wonderful theme! It’s time for the world to catch up with the ancient Indian Principle”.
Chairman SAI International School, Dr. Bijoy Kumar Sahoo wished the delegates for a brilliant discussion and said that all the discussions during the three days will culminate into happiness.
Designed after the International Model United Nations (MUN), SAIMUN is a simulation of the United Nations that provides an unexampled platform for students to deliberate on contemporary International issues. SAIMUN, Eastern India’s largest International MUN, is held every year to build leadership skills; increase global literacy and expand critical thinking in a student by exposing them to the working of the UN.
At the event, six committees like United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations General Assembly: Disarmament and International Security (UNGA-DISEC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT), The International Labour Organization (ILO) and The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), are deliberating on various issues like Implementation plan for the New Urban Agenda, The situation in the Middle East, The role of diamonds in fuelling conflict, Human Rights of persons with disabilities, Framework for collective bargaining and labour relations and Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions through promoting sustainable development, expanding opportunities and addressing related challenges.
In the inaugural ceremony, students from Uganda performed a foot tapping dance show and the SAIoneers enthralled the gallery with a musical rendition. The School Toppers of the academic session 2015-17 and their parents as well as the outstanding students were felicitated during the occasion. The Secretary General of SAIMUN, Tanmoy Panigrahi outlined the objectives and expectations of the SAIMUN and briefed the audience on its history. The International delegates and the Chairpersons of each committee were introduced during the ceremony. It was followed by briefing on the various etiquettes and procedures to be followed during the Conference and commencement of the sessions.
SAIoneer Soumya Shambhavi created history by scoring 98.4% in Class XII CBSE 2017 (Commerce), with this she becomes the Region Topper in Commerce.
The Students of SAI International School have again proved their mettle with their outstanding result in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) 2017. Soumya Shambhavi with an astounding aggregate of 98.4% in Commerce becomes the Region Topper and also breaks the school record by becoming the highest scorer in all the three streams. She was closely followed by Neha Moda with 97.6% and Shivangi Agarwal as well as Anant Dalmia with 96.6%. In the Science stream Chinmay Mohanty became the school topper with 96.8`%. The 2nd and the 3rd position were secured by Shruti Arya with 96.4% and Arjun Roy with 95% respectively. The topper of Humanities is Mugdha Mohapatra who scored a total of 95.6%. Anish Mishra scored 95.2% to take the 2nd position followed closely by Amlan Mishra with 95%, who got the 3rd position.
Year on year SAIoneers have been creating new benchmarks with their brilliant academic performance whereby elevating the level of excellence of the school.
As many as 495 students had appeared for the examination, out of which 83.3% of students secured more than 75% of marks, which is an achievement in itself. In Science stream, out of 295 students, the school average of Science is at 84%. In Commerce, out of 181 students the school average is 84.1% and in Humanities, out of 19 students the school average is 83%.
The school resounded with laughter and filled with exuberance of success as the students and teachers celebrated the huge achievement. SAI International School has already put its foot print in the national educational map, which is aptly reflected in the AISSCE 2017 results. The school continues its success saga creating toppers each year, catering to the dreams and aspirations of innumerable students.
Nitesh achieved the second rank in General Category, in the All India Law Entrance Examination (AILET 2017) conducted by National Law University, New Delhi. He scored a total of 99 marks, one mark short of reaching the top position, the result of which was declared on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. More than 16,000 students had appeared for the entrance held on May 7, 2017, out of which only 52 students were selected from the General Category.

The team consisting of Pranav Manie, Tanmoy Panigrahi, Sameer Kumar Patro and Akarsh Kumar Das received a grand prize money and the Championship trophy from Shri Tathagata Satpathy, Editor, Orissa POST and Adyasha Satpathy, Chief Executive, Orissa POST.
The Champions from SAI International School confidently faced the gruelling rounds by Quiz Master Venkatesh Srinivasan and emerged as winners from among the thirty teams that had participated. Earlier the team had participated in the preliminary round held on Monday, April 17, 2017 and was among the best eight teams that got selected to the final round.

SAIoneers sang a welcome song on the identity of a woman that mesmerized the audience. Principal Shri Harish Sanduja addressed the gathering and highlighted on the importance of a woman and spoke on important women personalities who have contributed to the society. He spoke about the power of women depicted in our mythology and history. An Odissi dance performance depicting the power and strength of women bought a lot of applause from the audience followed by a short movie on eminent women figures who have inspired us and keep inspiring till date.
Padma Shri Guru Smt. Aruna Mohanty, the charismatic Odissi dance maestro graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, the Odissi exponent shared her insight on the women power and stated that with hard work and determination, anything can be achieved. The audience was mesmerized by a beautiful poem sung by her. She concluded her speech by singing Bande Utkal Janani with the SAIoneers.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world. This is not just another day but it is a day to appreciate and give respect to all the women who are the essence of our lives. This day is a day to honor the life, grit and determination of women, a being that embodies courage, conviction, and compassion. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
