Thirty eight teams from 14 different schools across the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar took part in ‘Quest’, an inter school quiz competition hosted at SAI International School on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Students from schools like BJEM, DAV, Sainik School, DM School, Mothers Public School, DPS Kalinga, Prabhujee English Medium School and St. Xaviers, Kedar Gouri participated in the event.
Six different rounds on multiple topics were held like Seedhi Baat, which was the preliminary round to shortlist the top six groups. It was followed by the Alti Palti, which was a direct round, Pandora Box, where the participants have to choose their topic and questioned accordingly, 1, 2 ka 4, the round to connect four visual clues, TKO (the total knock out round), for participants to eliminate the wrong items and Hashtag, the final buzzer round. The team comprising of Pranav Manie and Akarsh Kumar Das from SAI International School were the winners followed by the team of Aman Samal and Kalhar Das from DAV Kalinga Nagar who came second and the team of Abhishek Rath and Krishna Aditya Mohanty of DAV, CDA who came third.
Quest, the quizzing extravaganza is the creation of four dynamic Alumni of SAI International School, Akshat Praneet, Chinmay Mohanty, Suswet Sukumar Patra and Amlan Mishra, who apart from pursuing their higher studies are in a mission to spread the love for quizzing among the youngsters. The four brilliant ex-students of SAI International School have won many awards in various regional and national level quiz competitions.
The annual Startup Competition of SAI International School was conducted on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Shri L.N.Gupta, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary MSME, the person behind Odisha Startup Policy, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and judged the competition.
Thirty seven entrepreneurial projects lined up in the Indraprastha auditorium showcased the bright innovative ideas of the students simultaneously reflected their concern for the rising pollution, public welfare and development of the smart city. Shri Gupta congratulated the students for their innovative ideas and the school for introducing Entrepreneurship as a part of their curriculum. Addressing the students, he said “Dr.Sahoo is the biggest example of Social entrepreneurship for you. Making SAI International, the No.1 School in the State and No.5 in the Country, is quite an achievement.”
To inspire the budding talents, he outlined the various measures taken by the State Government to encourage students for becoming entrepreneurs and said that “Let SAI International School become the first School to adopt the Learning and Development (L&D) programme”. The L&D programme is a 4-week online programme for early stage entrepreneurs and is available free of cost on the website, www.startupodisha.gov.in.
Shri Gupta suggested identifying the best five projects of the school and registering those in the MSME web portal for startups, which if found feasible will be connected with angel investors as well as given an opportunity to take part in the ‘Festival of Innovation’ to be held later this year.
Dr. B.K.Sahoo, Chairman, SAI International School cited the success stories of 14 year old entrepreneur Harshwardhan Zala and Colonel Harland Sanders, who started KFC at the age of 65, said that, ‘passion which is the driving force behind entrepreneurship, is not age specific’.
The competition provides an amazing platform for the students of Senior Secondary Commerce to exhibit their business acumen and get an opportunity to discuss about their model startup ventures with eminent personalities. It is organized every year to promote entrepreneurship among the students by encouraging them to initiate and build up on their idea to a meaningful business model. Scholar Badge Ceremony is one of the most prestigious ceremonies of SAI International School, where meritorious students from Class V to XII are awarded with badges, blazers and stars every year. The ceremony is conducted to acknowledge the budding genius and encourage them to reach greater heights. The Scholar Badge Ceremony for the academic year 2016-17 commenced on Saturday, July 8, 2017, where students of class V & VI were awarded with scholar certificates. To witness the proud moment, parents of the young scholars were also invited. Adding gaiety to the moment, SAIoneers performed an enthralling dance show supporting the 22nd Asian Athletic Championships.
The Fresher’s Day celebrations or SAI Abhinandan for Class XI students was held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 in the Indraprastha Auditorium. Fresher’s Day is an occasion each student looks forward to. It is the time to break the ice between seniors and freshers, to bond and mingle with one another. A day, which remain etched in the memory forever.
Welcoming the freshers to the SAI family, Chairman Dr. Sahoo explained the role and responsibilities of being a SAIoneer. He said that the students need to imbibe the spirit of SAIoneer by being humble, inculcate good character and imbibe the determination to succeed. He added that the next two years are the most crucial phase in the life of a student, unless one is focused and measure the steps, there is high probability of being getting distracted. Principal Shri Harish Sanduja presented a video on the expectations of being a SAIoneer.
The Class XII students left no stone unturned to ensure a prismatic welcome to Class XI. Freshers in colorful attires, smiling faces and resounding laughter were enthralled by the hospitality. The day commenced with the customary “tilak”, where the seniors welcomed the newcomers to the event. It followed with the head boy and girl giving out a moving speech welcoming the freshers.
As no fresher party is complete without dance and music, the seniors enthralled the juniors with music and dance. Superb band performances, skillful fillers and outstanding dance shows by boys and girls filled the crowd with euphoria.
It was attended by Dr. Bijoy K. Sahoo, Chairman, Ms. Silpi Sahoo, Trustee, Shri Harish Sanduja, Principal, Shri Nilakantha Panigrahi and Shri Kalingarudra Panda, Vice Principal, teachers and staffs.
To promote the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship (AAC) 2017 to be held in Bhubaneswar from July 5 to 9, 2017, SAI International School enthusiastically took part and organised various promotional activities in and around the Capital City. The School is privileged to be given an opportunity by the State Government to conduct road shows in a bid to promote the highly prestigious event.
On Sunday, June 25, 2017, the students of SAI International School took part in the 31st Patha Utsav organised with the central theme “Promoting the forthcoming AAC”. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik officially announced and inaugurated hoisting of the event in the august presence of Ministers, MLAs, and Senior Bureaucrats of the State as well as eminent sports personalities from across the Nation. The Student Band Group escorted Hon’ble Chief Minister to the podium amidst cheering beats of drums and trumpets. A replica of the mascot ‘Olly’, the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, created by the students was also showcased. During the event, the talented SAIoneers demonstrated their yoga skills by doing various formations like pyramidical and asanas based on stretching and flexibility with athletics as the central theme. This was followed by a dance performance where the students artistically rendered their support for the upcoming AAC through a unique fusion of Indian and western styles. The wonderfully crafted dance commenced with the song ‘Salaam India’ and ended with the theme song of AAC 2017. The graceful dancers mesmerized the huge audience gathering by showcasing various forms of sports activities through their dance performance.
To create awareness about the mega event and bring in a greater sense of involvement, a road show was organised at Pal Heights, Bhubaneswar, on Monday, June 26, 2017 where the students performed a musical show by combining various thematic music of sports across nations, yoga activities, a dance show depicting athletics, besides displaying some sporting actions like relay race, shot put, javeline throw etc.
The School renders its whole hearted support to the Government of Odisha for organising such a magnanimous International event. The upcoming AAC, Asia’s premier track and field event, will bring together around 1,104 athletes including 20 World Champions from 45 countries, who will participate in 42 different disciplines. It will be held in the newly renovated Kalinga Stadium Complex, Bhubaneswar. The winners of mega Championship event will procure a direct berth in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships London, 2017. For the third time the Asian Athletics Championships is being held in India, after New Delhi in1989 and Pune in 2013.
