IT education for all
Information technology integrated effectively in the curriculum, right from Nursery to Class XII at various levels, gives the students ample opportunities to learn and explore. For children, computer technology has provided an indescribable wealth of resources, information and knowledge. Research has also suggested that computer technology has helped students to improve their grades in other subjects, most notably science.
Technology also has the potential to transform education by extending the learning space beyond the four walls of a classroom and offers a variety of learning opportunities beyond the physical limits of school. With the current accelerated growth in devices, we are already witnessing the emergence of flexible, open learning environments that enable contextual, real-time, interactive and personalized learning.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
ERP is a management software, usually a suite of integrated applications, that a company can use to store and manage data from every stage. ERP provides an integrated real-time view of core processes, using common databases maintained by a database management system, The applications that make up the system share data across the various departments that entered the data. ERP facilitates information flow between all business functions, and manages connections.
SAI Academic Management System (SAMS)
SAMS is a customized software system developed for SAI International School, to keep a track of students’ academic records and to automate the generation of report cards, thus eliminating the slow and cumbersome process of manually writing report cards. It also reduces the chances of error, since the software is programmed to calculate the outputs as per pre-designed formats.
It provides the ease of writing comments for each child, pertaining to each subject, that gives an idea about how well the child is acquainted with that subject. It also has an option of “My page” that is filled by the child, profiling his details to accuracy. This kind of a system has the option of institutional remark combined with the child’s say in his/her report card. It also has a graphical representation of achievements and individual goal settings by children for themselves. It helps to monitor the growth of each child with reference to weekly, monthly and Summative Assessments..
Formative comments are also entered by the teacher, that is extremely useful for the decisive summative assessment. It can be better explained with this example:
When you cook a meal and you check for salt in your kitchen, it is formative assessment as it still provides you with an option to do the amendment required but when the dish is served to the guests the result there is summative assessment.
SAMS therefore is a management apparatus developed for an easy recording of the individual child.
Learning Management System (LMS)
Also known as knowledge/ information management system, it refers to a knowledge repository created at the virtual space that is a storehouse of all the data, information, knowledge resource generated by the teachers over the academic years. Worksheets, test papers, presentations, reports can all be saved for future reference. Since the data created goes obsolete if not saved properly with a proper management tool, LMS serves as a boon for managing, maintaining and monitoring of all the learning resources of the school, for the school and by the school.
